Ulla Westermann - Week 13 - kitchen window

The background colors remind me of a painted garage door I walked by from my parents house to the bakery every morning. I found some leftover curtains and curtain rings and handstitched the vines above the curtain. The piece is 14" x 10".

Judy Ahlborn - 7 of 25

This piece I made for the 'In the Garden' reader challenge for Quilting Arts Magazine.  I titled the piece 'Garden Whimsy', and it currently appears in the June/July issue.  The background is a purchased batik, the kaleidoscopes I printed to fabric awhile back but had never used, the stems are cut strips of fabric, and the leaves are from deconstructed silk flowers.  I used my computer on this one to design the flowers in Kaleidoscope Kreator.

This is the second of my set of butterfly pictures designed in Photoshop Elements.  It is similar to the first one so they could be hung together.  It also has the same background fabrics and made with the same techniques.

Trying, but not succeeding much; New piece from Heather Thomas

Life sure does try to grab me by the proverbial _ _ _ _ _. I've been having a hell of a time completing anything these days!  Here is an almost finished piece.  It lacks hand stitching.  It features a heavily quilted base of hand dyed velvet and is topped with a vintage metal frame filled with vintage metal flowers and a ceramic vase.  It doesn't look like me and it felt very foreign while making it. I have no idea as to what the prompt would have been, I certainly can't tell by looking at it!
Till next time,
Heather

Ulla Westermann - Week 12 - Connected

This was fun! Happy colors! The background is pieced. The three spirals are crocheted and connected with each other by thread. It is partially quilted with echo lines, and partially with squiggles. The piece is 10" x 14".

Ulla Westermann - Week 11 - On the beach

I found these great shell shaped beads which made me think of summer and beach. The sandy background is pieced with different fabrics. For the ocean I used one of Heather's fabrics that has a wonderful pattern in it. The umbrellas are fused and stitched on and the poles are thread painted. The piece is 10" x 14".

Judy Ahlborn - 5 of 25

This is the first of a couple of butterfly pictures that I designed in Photoshop Elements.  The background fabric was a commercial black and white print that I stitched and painted to give it the greenish cast.  I then took a photo of the background and opened it in Photoshop to design the rest of the picture.  The zebra stripes were cut out of fabric and the flowers and butterfly were printed to fabric and appliqued and free motion stitched on the very top.
