Ulla Westermann - Week 2 - The Shield

The two metal pieces on either side were wrinkled and twisted. The metal piece in the middle was tooled. For the background I used two layers of fabric. I quilted lines 1/4 inch apart and then cut the top layer so you can see the lighter fabric underneath. The light gray binding matches the color of the aluminum. The piece is 14" x 10". This was the first time I worked with metal and I haven't decided yet if I like it or not.

  1. I like this piece a lot, both the metal and the cut work. I like it better turned so that the red violet third is at the bottom. For some reason, the lines are more energetic that way and they quiet down the metal bits.
